- The student masters the main concepts from linear control theory and non-linear dynamics that are relevant for the mathematical description of biological control systems.
- The student can effectively and critically derive the essence from relevant scientific articles, describing dynamical models of human body functions and their validation.
- The student can derive a dynamical model of a relevant feedback controlled body function, related to a clinical question.
- The student can analyse the dynamical properties of the above dynamical model.
- The student can simulate this dynamical model with and without a feedback controller.
- The student can answer the underlying clinical questions on basis of analysis and simulations.
- The student can report on the obtained results in writing and in an oral presentation.

The course “Biological Control Systems” concerns the analysis of body functions from a dynamic systems point of view. The course involves theory regarding linear and nonlinear dynamics and control and the analysis of dynamic systems with computational tools like Matlab. The students will apply theory and tools in the dynamic analysis of physiological functions during a project.|
All goals, except goal 8, are evaluated by grading the 3 reports that students groups of approximately 3 persons deliver. The reports concern:
- Model description report (grading weight 1)
- Dynamic analysis report (grading weight 1)
- Final report (grading weight 3)
The last four goals are evaluated (in addition) by grading the end presentation of the group and participation in the discussion concerning the presentations by other groups (grading weight 1).
