INTRODUCTION
The Master Assignment is the conclusion of the Industrial Design Engineering programme. In this assignment the student has to show that he is capable of addressing product development on an academic level. The master assignment can be done within the university or outside, either in a company, at another university or in a research institute.
CONTENT
The master track in which this assignment is carried out aims to answer the question "how to adequately perform the product development process, in an appropriate manner, in the right place, at the right time, with the right methods and tools and in the right conditions?". The master assignment allows the student to elaborately focus on particular topics in the development process from definite viewpoints, or to address specific facets in the full broadness of development processes. In either case, the student will have to adequately make a distinction between the actual activities that are part of product development and the way in which product development is organised, structured and governed. This capability is substantiated by carrying out an autonomous assignment that is prepared, planned and managed by the student. This assignment addresses (aspects of) the product development process, either by performing a contemplated execution thereof, or by analysing/implementing/evaluating working methods and/or methodologies in the field of product development. If the assignment is carried out outside the university, a preliminary study has to underwrite the academic level of the assignment.
RELATION TO OTHER COURSES
The assignment is the application of many courses followed by the student in the master study.
FORM OF EDUCATION
Individual work.
EXAMINATION
The master assignment is assessed by a committee consisting of at least three persons: the professor of the chair, an associate/assistant professor from the research group, an associate/assistant professor from the University who is not a member of the same research group. An external advisor can be invited to participate in the exam. For further information, see: "Handleiding voor de laatste fase van de masteropleiding Industrieel Ontwerpen".
