LEARNING GOALS
Insight in the field of packaging design and in the development of design tools are the main goals. The specific learning goals of this course strongly depend on the topics and/or aspects conjointly determined by student and teacher.
Inhoud
INTRODUCTION
Packaging design is unexpectedly complex. The amount of aspects that have to be considered in the design process is large. In fact, product and packaging should go together during development processes. But a problem for a designer who is trying to integrate packaging design into product design is that knowledge is fragmented, hard to find and incomplete. To overcome this, a lot of aspects have to be detailed and a lot of information has to be gathered and structured. In this course small steps are made to structure the information needed for designing packaging and for integrating packaging design into product design.

CONTENT
It is the goal of this course to analyze, apply and engender existing and new methods in the governing of processes in product development. Approaches for this range from literature studies, via case studies to the structured execution of (parts of) governing methods.
A packaging design problem in the field of the Packaging Design and Management research themes is being located first. For example: design aspects related to cosmetic products for ladies, interaction between user and packaging for plastic lids or covers, the amount of possibilities of laminates used for packaging, etc. An analysis is made and the gathered information is structured and translated to a tool. With this tool a packaging has to be redesigned. Depending on the result of working with the tool, the tool is being evaluated and adjusted. This course provides the opportunity for an (individual) in-depth study of specific topics in the field of Packaging Design and Management.

RELATION TO OTHER COURSES
The courses Packaging Design and Management I and II gives insight into the field of packaging design and management. Insight and knowledge about packaging design is of importance for every product that is being designed and therefore this subject has a big relation with industrial design in common.
