Cursusdoelen
After completing this course successfully, the student can:
  • Explain concepts and techniques for wireless and mobile networks (e.g., .propagation, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), spread spectrum, code division multiple access (CDMA), hidden terminal problem, random access, carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA), preamble sampling protocols, hybrid automatic repeat request (H-ARQ), mobility management, handover techniques, and ad-hoc routing).
  • Explain the operation of existing mobile and wireless network systems (e.g. 5G, LTE, Wireless LAN, Bluetooth, Zigbee and AODV).
  • Motivate the main design choices for existing and future mobile and wireless network systems.
  • Explain problems and solutions for security in wireless networks
  • Perform basic quantitative evaluations of mobile and wireless network systems.
  • Describe the challenges and solutions of new fields in mobile and wireless networking, such as vehicular networking and beyond 5G.
Inhoud
This course concentrates on networking aspects of wireless and mobile technologies. The course will provide fundamental insight into a large range of networking problems associated to wireless and mobile communications, e.g., medium access control, handover-techniques, hand-over, mobility management, and ad-hoc routing, For a good understanding of these networking problems, the course will also briefly review wireless communications aspects such as signal propagation, modulation, and multiplexing. Part of this subject is devoted to the description of different existing and future technologies, like LTE, 5G, Wireless LANs, Bluetooth, Zigbee and AODV. Some lectures are dedicated to advanced subjects, such as ad hoc networking and vehicular networking.
