After following the course a student is able to:
  • design controllers for linear system using a series of classical and modern methods
  • understand how to model uncertainty in an H-infinity framework
  • understand the basics of H2 control and related LQ and LQG
  • comprehend fundamental limitations of control
  • analyze linear systems in Matlab with both state space and transfer function representations
  • analyze models of systems using undergraduate-level math (complex numbers, Laplace transforms, matrices)
Robust control is a branch of control theory that explicitly deals with uncertainty in its approach to controller design. Designing controllers that function properly so long as uncertain parameters or disturbances are within some set is what robust control is about. 
In nine chapters nine topics in advanced control are surveyed: dynamical systems, norms of signals and systems, stability of closed loops, fundamental limitations of control, a chapter on classic control design and then H2 control, H-infinity control and uncertainty modelling and robustness. Matlab is integrated in the course.
