Render insight in the operation and design of wireless transceiver electronics.
This MSc course renders insight in the operation and design of wireless transceiver electronics. The final examination concerns a design assignment that includes deriving circuit specifications from radio system specifications, designing a receiver circuit block and simulating of its performance using state-of-the-art industrial simulation software (SpectreRF ).  The course content includes:
  • Advanced RF Integrated Circuit (IC) technologies (brief overview)
  • RF terminology and specifications
  • Wireless transmitter and receiver architectures
  • Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) circuit topologies and design
  • Mixer circuit topologies and design
  • Oscillator circuit topologies and design
  • RF and IF filter topologies and design
  • RF Power Amplifier topologies and design
  • Design of a CMOS Radio transceiver block-chain starting from a link budget
  • Simulation techniques for RF transceiver Circuits
  • System calculations & block specification proposal
  • Quiz questions on theory
  • Design Assignment Presentation + Q&A
