Het begrijpen van Analog-to-digital converters op een niveau waarbij de student zelfstandig de moderne literatuur op dit gebied kan analyseren en beoordelen.
Inhoud
During this course the basic functions such as sampling theory and amplitude discretisation are reviewed. The block diagrams of analog-to-digital conversion and digital-to-analog conversion form the basis of a discussion on specific properties. From several converters the circuit diagrams are analyzed, commercial testing and specifications are reviewed and suitability for systems is considered. Next to Nyquist converters also the over-sampled and noise-shaping topologies will be reviewed. Some attention is paid to technological aspects such as reference design and mis-match of components. The impact of A/D and D/A converters on the system properties will be discussed. Although not obliged, we recommend to have followed the course "Advanced Analog IC Electronics" (191210850) which is given in the 2" Semester.  Examination will be through four sets of exercises that have to be completed during the course. The final test is a critical review of an IEEE Journal of Solid-state circuits paper and an oral explanation. The material will consist of PowerPoint slides and chapters of text
